About Fay Sheppard.

Fay Sheppard is a natural dyes artist and printmaker, who works with a process called Eco printing, also known as botanical contact printing.
Fay fell in love with the ecoprint process during her Art Foundation and Fine Art Degree at Loughborough University, and has been refining her natural dye knowledge and continuing her printmaking practice since graduating in June 2025.
She is originally from Leicestershire, England, but is now based in Pembrokeshire, Wales as of April 2026.

Eco printing is a process in which leaves and organic matter are 'bundled’ with fabric or paper, and boiled or steamed to release natural dye imprints. The fibre or paper is mordanted and prepared prior to printing to maximise natural dye uptake.

The outcome of a print- it’s colour, brilliance, and texture- is born from a delicate blend of everyday conditions, from weather patterns, seasonal changes, tannin content and fibre preparation. Every ecoprint is therefore undeniably unique, and governed by the changing rhythms of the natural world throughout the seasons.

Check out a few of Fay's videos below to watch the fascinating process in action.
